Condition & logistics
Running vs. Not
Running vehicles typically fetch a higher donation value. Donating an SUV or crossover that's in good working condition can mean a significant tax deduction. Even vehicles needing minor repairs can still be accepted!
Title Issues
Make sure your vehicle's title is clear. If you have lost it, New Mexico’s MVD allows for replacement titles, but it’s easier to donate with a clear title in hand.
Storage/Pickup Logistics
Storing your SUV or crossover before donation is fine, but we recommend that it’s accessible for our pickup service. We’ll arrange a time that works best for you, no matter where you are in New Mexico.
Title transfer & paperwork
Transferring the title of your SUV or crossover in New Mexico is a straightforward process. You’ll need to complete the 'Application for Title and Registration' form, which is available through the New Mexico MVD website. Notarization is not required unless you're transferring ownership to someone else, but be sure to sign it in front of the buyer. Don’t forget to either keep or return your license plates as per NM regulations before handing over the vehicle.
Tax deduction for this donation
When you donate your SUV or crossover, you may be eligible for a tax deduction based on its fair market value, typically ranging from $500 to the vehicle's sale price. For vehicles sold for more than $500, you’ll receive IRS Form 1098-C, which serves as documentation for your tax return. It’s a win-win for both you and the community!
Local context — New Mexico
In New Mexico, SUVs and crossovers are more than just vehicles; they’re a lifestyle. From the scenic drives through the Gila National Forest to the daily commutes in urban areas like Albuquerque, these vehicles fit right into the local culture. Popular reasons for donations often stem from life changes—like downsizing homes or relocating from the high desert to a different region. Many of our donors appreciate the rugged reliability that SUVs provide, especially for traveling down unpaved roads or hauling gear for weekend adventures.
